There’s a book inside you. A message that won’t leave you alone.
But between fear, responsibility, doubt — and now the rise of AI — you keep starting… and stopping.
Welcome to The Adventurous Author Podcast.
I’m Bonnie Jean Schaefer — fantasy author D.K. Drake — and I’ve published four novels while working a full-time job. I didn’t quit my life to write. I built systems that made finishing possible inside it.
Now I help stuck Christian writers do the same.
This podcast is discipleship through storytelling.
We follow a simple framework:
Start with WHO.
Anchor your identity in Christ so fear loses leverage — especially in an AI age where identity matters more than ever.
Live Your Story.
Build sustainable 15-minute systems that fit your real life.
Win Your Race.
Finish what God called you to start — and become the kind of person who keeps finishing.
Every season rotates through identity, systems, and storytelling mastery in a structured spiral of growth.
If you’ve been hiding, doubting, or wondering where you fit in this new creative world — you’re not alone.
Let’s adventurize your life and rise from stuck...together.

Sign up for the Writing Workshop on August 23!
During this workshop, you will learn the basic principles of the three-act story structure. This three-act framework is the backbone of great storytelling, so when you understand this structure, your stories become easier to write and harder for readers to put down once they start reading.
Since you don’t really learn something until you experiment with that knowledge, we’re going to do some writing experimentation during this workshop. We’ll let AI do the fast writing for us to demonstrate the structure elements, and every attendee will have chance to contribute at least one idea towards the creation of this story. So if you show up and participate, you will have the chance to be a contributor of a short story I will read on this podcast in a future episode.
Did I mention it’s free to attend? And that the amazing group of guys who are making incredible progress on their books within the League of Adventurous Authors will be in the workshop? And that I’ll be opening the doors to the League at the end of this workshop? Well, it is free. The authors in the League will be attending. And you’ll have a chance to join the League when I reopen the membership again at the end of the workshop.

Hello, hello! As a Christian author, it’s important to know how to write well. It’s far more important, however, to have a strong faith foundation. The more you know about God, the more you learn about you. And people. Such knowledge allows you to write rich characters that connect with readers.
The foundation of our faith is the Word of God. So we better believe the Word is true.
How can we believe that, though? Should we blindly believe the Bible is true because it claims to be the inspired word of God? Does God expect us to just take His word for it, or does He provide tangible proof from outside sources?
As we’ve seen in episodes 66, 67, 68, and 69, He provides an abundance of proof in the way of prophetic prophecies, historical records, and even medicine. In today’s final episode in the Why Believe the Bible series, we’ll explore some recent and significant archaeological discoveries that once again prove the Bible is true.
Listen in as my dad Harry Schaefer continues to teach from his fancy recording studio…which also doubles as his dining room. Here’s Harry!

Welcome to the fourth episode in the Why Believe the Bible series taught by my awesome dad Harry Schaefer.
The underlying premise of the series is that we can verify the truth of the Bible by looking to outside sources such as the historical record to see if what’s in the historical record aligns with scripture. And we find that it does. In episodes 66, 67, and 68, we looked at ways prophetic prophecies and archeological findings prove the Bible is true. Today, we’ll look into an interesting outside source by exploring the realm of medicine and find out what soap, masks and quarantines have to do with the Bible.
To explain, I’m handing the microphone to my dad as he continues to teach from his dining room table. Here’s Harry!

Hey, Christian Author!
Get ready to enjoy the third episode of the three-day, five-episode Why Believe the Bible event hosted by my dad, Harry Schaefer.
In episode 66, we learned that one way to confirm the truth of any book, including the Bible, is to compare it to outside sources. We take what’s written, compare it to known facts, and see if it matches. If it lines up, it’s true. The Bible lines up with known facts, so it can be trusted as a source of truth.
And two, we can use predictive prophecy. Men inspired by God wrote amazingly accurate prophecies, and we looked at one such prophecy concerning Tyre.
In episode 67, we explored how the prophecies made concerning Babylon by Isaiah and Jeremiah prove the Bible is true.
Today, we'll look at three additional reasons we can believe the Bible is true. I'm turning the microphone back over to my dad to explain.

DK

As a Christian author, have you ever wondered why you should believe the Bible? Or how you can know the Bible is true because you have proof as opposed to blind faith?
Welcome to the second episode of the three-day, five-episode Why Believe the Bible event hosted by my dad, Harry Schaefer.
In this episode, we’ll dig into prophecies made by both Isaiah and Jeremiah regarding Babylon and explore how these prophecies really came to pass and thus help prove the Bible is true.
I’m turning the microphone back over to my dad. Here’s Harry!

As Christian authors, you and I have the awesome privilege of writing fantastic stories told from a godly perspective. And what’s the basis of that perspective? The Bible.
The Bible should establish the foundation and framework for our lives and our stories. The Bible should be our ultimate source for absolute truth in the midst of a world that doesn’t want to believe such a thing as absolute truth exists.
But why should we believe the Bible? How do we know the Bible is true?
To answer those questions, I’ve brought on a special guest (my dad, Harry Schaefer!) to teach you and me why we can and should believe the Bible. This episode thus marks the start of a three-day, five episode Why believe the Bible? event.
This podcast series is by no means a comprehensive study of the topic as there are countless ways to defend our faith and the veracity of the Bible. This series is designed to teach you some practical, logical ways and reasons to believe the Bible is true.

DK
